Mythical bestiary Wikia

Saskipogoes are a species of magical marsupial beasts that are originated from Canada, but now they are spread out in aquatic pet shops.

Appearance[]

Saskipogos are peculiar, marine marsupials that look basically like a mix of wombats and goldfish. They tend to have front halves of wombats that are sturdy and fur-covered, often colored in earthy browns, greys, or russet tones typical of mundane marsupials and the back halves of goldfish, from hindquarters are shimmer with iridescent hues of orange, red, or gold, depending on the species of fish they resemble. The transition between fur and scales is smooth but distinct, creating a natural gradient between land and water textures. Another characteristic about their faces which radically resemble to wombat’s face, with rounded muzzles and expressive, beady fish-like eyes that gleam with intelligence, the goldfish gills are located subtly front of their wombat neck and forelimbs, allowing them to breathe both in water or on land for extended periods. The forepaws, they remain clawed and strong, excellent for digging earth in water/land near the edges of ponds or streams, while their tails are broad and finned, providing powerful propulsion underwater. When they move on land, they waddle or walk with hind fins; in water, they glide/swim gracefully, propelled by their vibrant, fan-like tails.

Behavior[]

Saskipogoes tend to behave similar to their wombat/goldfish relatives. They live in groups called mobs (a.k.a. mermobs), which they are generally docile and curious marine mammals, often seen basking near water sources or digging into muddy banks to create nesting burrows. They are semi-aquatic by nature, dividing their time between land-based foraging and underwater exploration. Despite their size and strength, they are gentle herbivores, feeding primarily on sea plants, algae, and tender roots. However, they occasionally nibble on small insects or larvae found in the soil. Socially, Saskipogos are highly affectionate and form close-knit family mobs, communicating through soft grunts and bubbling noises both above and below water. During the mating season, pairs are monogamous, with the female constructing a water-adjacent burrow where she lays 3–4 eggs in one batch. Once hatched, the joeys remain with their parents for several months until they can swim and burrow independently. Though usually timid, saskipogoes can be fiercely protective of their nests or young. From breeding season, saskipogoes were domesticated by wild saskipogoes in captivity individuals have been known to bond closely with their caretakers, making them gentle and amusing companions. Because of their fondness for aquatic vegetation, have proven to be affectionate and calm, often thriving in garden ponds or natural reserves.
