Mythical bestiary Wikia

Rattlerabbits (or Rattlejackrabbits) are a species of chimerical magical beasts that originate from the Southwest America, however, they have now spread to desert regions all over the world.

Appearance[]

Rattlerabbits are chimerical creatures that have the heads and forelimbs of rabbits/hares, but the hind ends/tails of rattlesnakes, kind of like tatzelwurms, cuchivilus, and ophiotauri. Essentially, their front halves contain fur, and their back halves are scaly, however, their fur and scales tend to match in coloring and patterns, which tend to mimic indigenous rattlesnakes and/or jackrabbits of their region. Also, their heads tend to look mostly like jackrabbit heads, however, they are a bit elongated and streamlined, similar to rattlesnakes, and they have fangs that are similar to common vampire bat and serpents, instead of leporine’s teeth. Another thing is that their eyes are both leporine and serpentine in appearance, and they also have tongues that are roughly like leporine tongues, but are forked, like rattlesnakes. When they move, they move in a combination of rabbit-like crawling, hopping, and slithering.

Behavior[]

Rattlerabbits in the wild tend to be rather skittish, generally not a threat to anyone unless they are threatened, cornered, or protecting their kits. Rattlerabbits tend to be serial monogamists, having two mates every mating season. Females tend to lay clutches of around 15-19 eggs in two batches, and when they hatch, the kits tend to covertly stick by the mother until they are ready and able to take care of themselves. Though most rattlerabbits live in the wild deserts, there are some that have been domesticated, breeding into large mixture, and are actually the most greatest pets to have, than tatzelwurms. Mainly omnivorous by nature, but if you tamed a rattlerabbit, then you might never have a hare’s companionship with your house again.
