Mythical bestiary Wikia

Pilous are a race of rodent beings that are particularly related to fay folk, and are originated from France, but have now spread in worldwide.

Appearance[]

Pilous tend to be mice, with round bodies, expressive faces, and oversized, dark eyes that give them a permanently alert and curious look. Their general build resembles that of a dormouse or jerboa, with strong hind legs, small forepaws, and long, slender tails used for balance. Pilous come in a variety of coat colors and patterns, while others have more contrasting markings such as patches of deep coloration across the face and body. Their fur is short and plush, thickening slightly around the neck and chest. Large, rounded ears, allowing them to pick up the faintest sounds. The forepaws are delicate and hand-like, suited for grasping food, small tools, or objects they collect. The hind legs are more muscular, enabling quick hops and agile movements. Pilous frequently wear simple, handmade garments such as tunics, scarves, or wraps. These clothes are usually crafted from natural fibers or soft fabrics they find or trade for, and are worn both for comfort and as a sign of individuality. Overall, pilous have a gentle and endearing appearance, blending the features of small mammals with a touch of whimsical charm.

Behavior[]

Pilous’ behavior is the same as mice, mixed with human’s behaviors. However, they are gentle, social creatures that live in close-knit communities known as nests. A single nest may contain several families who share food, chores, and protective duties. Pilous form strong bonds with their relatives and neighbors, often grooming one another or sitting together during rest hours. Despite their small size, pilous are clever and resourceful. They enjoy collecting objects—buttons, smooth stones, scraps of cloth, feathers—and use these items to decorate their homes or craft simple tools. Pilous value creativity, and it is common for them to exchange handmade gifts as a sign of friendship.

Pilous communicate through soft chirps, squeaks, and gentle head-tilts, but they also use expressive body language (mostly French). A raised tail may signal excitement, while tucked ears indicate uncertainty. They are naturally cautious but not aggressive, choosing to hide or scatter if threatened rather than confront predators. They are highly curious and spend much of their day exploring their surroundings, foraging for food, or learning new paths through their territory. They are especially active during dawn and dusk, when they gather in small groups to search for seeds, fruits, and small insects. Family is extremely important to pilous. Parents watch over their young closely, teaching them how to forage, climb, and recognize safe shelters. Young pilous are playful and energetic, often chasing one another in gentle games that help build coordination and social skills.

Overall, Pilous are peaceful, cooperative beings whose survival relies more on community, quick thinking, and agility than on strength.
